Discharge rate of Baanthampang spring measured with inhouse technology

Under NABARD’s Assistance Springshed Based Watershed Development Program, Bwanruangh Taudaizaeng Village Committee (VWC) and RNBA jointly initiated measuring the discharge rate of Baanthampang spring by a simple apparatus handmade technology as given in the table below:

Date of measurementDiameter  of pipe (mm)Capacity of bottle (l)Measuring time using stopwatch (min/sec)
14-04-2021512 minutes 16 seconds
08-05-20211717 seconds

There is a change in the discharge rate of springs, for 5 mm diameter of a pipe it took 2 minutes and 16 seconds to filled 1 litre capacity of a bottle and also for 17 mm diameter of a pipe it took 7 seconds to filled 1 litre capacity of a bottle as shown from the above table. In other words, rate of springs discharge is fluctuated due to variations of the rainfall.

The technology for measuring springs discharge is based on homemade materials such as Plastic bottle, Pipe, Cutter and a stopwatch.
Team members involved in the innovation were GD. khuliang and Zugai Kamei, Coordinators RNBA, Pouguigai Rongmei and Dinchuilung Gangmei Supervisors of the project and Village Watershed Committee members of the project implementing village.
